Children are the focus of our project. The sooner children learn to recognize the importance of the bee and how misconduct can affect nature, the more natural a rational environmental behavior becomes.

We as bee-my.world e.V. lead a bee working group in a primary school in Graben-Neudorf. The father of one of our students told us some time ago about the miraculous change in his 10-year-old son, who never talked about school at home. Since visiting school beekeeping lessons, he has been discussing sustainability and biodiversity with his parents. The experience of this father has strengthened our intention to carry out school beekeeping lessons area-wide. To organize and implement this is our project. Because if we make the families aware of the children’s environmental problems, our work has served its purpose.

We as bee-my.world e.V. lead a bee working group in a primary school in Graben-Neudorf. The father of one of our students told us some time ago about the miraculous change in his 10-year-old son, who never talked about school at home. Since visiting Bienen AG, he has been discussing sustainability and biodiversity with his parents. The experience of this father has strengthened our intention to carry out school beekeeping lessons area-wide. To organize and implement this is our project. Because if we make the families aware of the children’s environmental problems, our work has served its purpose.

We want to promote sustainability and respect for nature with our project.
In addition to educating children on environmentally conscious small beekeepers, we want to teach sustainability with our children’s products. We construct our kits for insect hotels from the remaining wood of the beehives, which are built in our own carpentry. Waste is not produced. That too we want to convey to the children. We organize “bee parties” without waste and give advice for flower boxes with bee-friendly seeds as examples of biodiversity.
In short, in the short time we spend with children, we want to educate as much as possible about bees, sustainability and biodiversity. Experience has taught that children carry these issues into their families and discuss with their parents. This is a big step in the right direction.

Bee-my.world will build beehives that are child-friendly for bees working groups in schools and day-care centers. That is, they are smaller than normal beehives and thus easier for the little ones to handle. In a first step, we want to equip 100 schools or day care centers with two children’s beehives each and a large hive for the teaching staff – depending on the season with a queen, so that the children experience the emergence of a bee people and understand their importance. At a young age, we raise awareness of nature, the environment and sustainability. By dealing with bees, we promote empathy and responsibility. Both are an important factor for the children in life when dealing with other people.
The project is being realized in collaboration with Undine Westphal, a children’s book author who has already published a number of books – including on children and bees – and as a beekeeper teacher with years of experience with school beekeeping.
bee-my.world would like to be able to offer an unbureaucratic form of financing, as the federal government, the federal states and the municipalities assign each other jurisdiction. The Ministry of Culture does not support this initiative, as long as school beekeeping is not part of compulsory education. So it can take up to two years for a request to arrive in the right place and be granted. But seeing that every day we do not educate children about our environmental issues and the importance of sustainability is a lost day, we think it’s reckless to wait for bureaucratic procedures.
Also the teaching material for the school beekeeping has to be financed. For the theory we need children’s textbooks and have prepared pollen models. In addition, we use a wild bee tube, in which the children see the development of wild bees – from the egg to the juvenile.
For the preparation of the school beekeepers, our beeCourses are used, with the help of which Undine Westphal prepares the beekeepers for their work with the children.
Intergroup communication is provided through Odoo, an extensible all-in-one management software. The support from our side takes place via the ticket system.
We finance all the services that we can provide ourselves. We must externally finance the material for our beehives, the bees and the teaching material, as well as beekeeping services and lessons.
Since this project affects us all, we decided to do crowdfunding. With small amounts from many people, we want to help make the world a liveable and endearing place.
If our funding target is not achieved, we will reduce the number of schools and day care centers that need to be supported accordingly. The project will be implemented in any case.
